We loved our stay at the Zadoc Brewster house. We loved everything about it. The room furnishings were magnificent, and on several occasions we made use of the lovely fire the hearth provided.
The library was a nice addition and we enjoyed reading notes several guests had written in books they donated. Inspired by the gestures of others, we also donated a book to the library, although I do not remember the name. The kitchen was a particular favorite of ours. We are frequent tea drinkers, and there was a lovely array of handy teapots and teacups for us to make use of. We found a little shop on the way to Camden which sold loose teas where we found quite possibly the beast tea ever.
During our stay we visited Camden, Acadia National Park, the lighthouse on the wharf, and various little gift shops, cheese makers, etc. We also relaxed quite a bit, and on several occasions we found ourselves snoozing in the living room. We prepared a lobster dinner once night while we were there (lobsters courtesy of Jess’s Market in Rockland) and enjoyed an excellent meal. Jonathan B.
The accommodations at the Zadoc Brewster House were all we had hoped for. You both must be quite happy with your labors. I would like to have seen the place before you rescued it. I hope you took lots of pictures of the process. We all enjoyed it so much and hope to be back. Ann W.
I want to say “thank you”. We loved the flat; It felt like home. It was so much nicer than a hotel and a great deal more comfortable. It was not cluttered, the colours worked well together and the choice in furniture and art added a nice homey touch.
I would highly recommend your home to other travelers. Faith S.
We had so much fun at Bayview Square … I still go on and on about it! Many mornings I wish were mornings like the ones in Rockland Our stay was a delight from start to finish. The rooms were spacious and bright, warm and inviting. We felt at home immediately. The amenities were first-class and our hosts were gracious, fun and knowledgeable. There were some days I would have been content to stay in the house all day! We'd highly recommend a stay at Bayview Square when in Rockland – all the comforts of home and so much more. We certainly intend to pay a return visit. Scott S.
During a week in early August, our family had the pleasure of staying in the downstairs apartment of the Captain Brewster House. From the moment we drove in the driveway and walked in the front door, we felt at home. Cathy and George have attended to every detail and the apartment is lovingly furnished with their antiques and treasures as if it were their own home. Our teenage girls loved their twin bedroom and the nearby exercise room. From here, we explored Monhegan Island, Owl’s Head Light and swam in nearby lakes. On several occasions, we walked to the breakwater and into Rockland to visit the Farnsworth Museum, the Puffin Project and the Island Institute along with the local bakeries and ice cream shops! We look forward to staying here again on our next trip to Maine! Susan M.
I wanted to drop you a line to let you know that we loved your place at Captain Zadoc Brewster House. We couldn't believe a rental could be so nice. Charlie and I said that if we ever bought a house in Maine, it would have to be just like yours – your taste is exquisite! We loved every last detail you have put into the apartments, from the pictures on the wall, to the great designs in bedding, curtains and furniture, even the taps, plates and more. Being British, I noticed several items in the house that appear to have come from the UK – I used to collect similar bone china mugs myself. And of course the wonderful array of books on the book shelf...I could have read one after the other if I'd just had enough time. I did read 'Without Reservations' and loved that!
Thank you SO MUCH for making our stay wonderful through the use of Captain Zadoc Brewster House. We really will tell others about it ...and for sure, be back again some time in the not too distant future. L. & C. H – NJ
We are having the best time that we have had in a long time. The house is absolutely wonderful! It will be hard to leave this weekend. Thank you. L. & H. I – NJ
The house is just wonderful. My son adores it, he calls the back his wing so we both aren't on top of each other. I'm fascinated with all the beautiful needlepoint. We do love every inch of it. Separate bathrooms are a blessing. J.D. – RI
We enjoyed staying at the Brewster house. It's roomy and charming. My wife is a nurse and like most nurses is a bit compulsive about cleanliness. She noticed how clean the house was when we arrived. She maintains the place to a standard of cleanliness that one would expect of very good hotels. We both love Maine. We will return again. When we visit the Penobscot Bay area again, we will be pleased to stay at the Brewster House. D.F. – NY
We can't believe our week here is over already! We have just been sitting in the living room talking about how we could have done with a second week here! We really really loved it here, and the house feels like a home, it has been a pleasure coming back to it! We’re already talking about coming back for our 1 yr anniversary – yey!!!!!!!! And trust me, I will be blabbing to everyone I know how perfect it is here. A.S. – England
We made it, and oh my god, how beautiful is it here? We are so impressed with the house – even though it looked gorgeous on the internet, it is even more amazing in real life. We feel very at home already! I. G. London
Enjoyable appears minor to describe our feelings of this trip – the Zadoc Brewster House was more than we expected – the flat was completely charming – you did a wonderful & thoughtful remodeling job, the view was great and a fine location for travel – and our leg muscles have never been better – thanks, hope to be in touch again ... D. & D. S – FL
We had a wonderful time, and absolutely enjoyed the flat. We kept saying that we felt like we were staying with family, it felt so cozy, so lived in, and so carefully furnished. As an English teacher, I enjoyed the bookshelf, and was happy to see writers as diverse as Hunter S. Thompson and David Sedaris alongside many classics and wonderful contemporary novels. And the location was very central. D.S. – PA
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay – your place was perfect for us and beautifully finished and decorated. We are already considering plans for next year in Rockland ... D.H. – Ontario
The Zadoc Brewster House in Rockland has Style, high speed Internet, satellite TV and did I say Style! Close to the ferries for island hopping, closer to Blue Hill Penn, Harborside and Bar Harbor, closer to Unity, and most importantly, closer to the Belfast Diner for cheddar cheesy, onion bacon potato pancake breakfasts. D.H. – MA
We’ve been having a wonderful time here at the Zadoc Brewster house. We went to the breakwater yesterday morning and after lunch went to the lighthouse at Pemaquid. Today we are getting ready for an excursion to Acadia. The area is so beautiful. Last night we went for a moonlit walk on the boardwalk here in Rockland. The Zadoc Brewster house is FULL of character. K.C. – NY
All those English pine pieces were a big draw for me, it’s my favorite decorative style. But as I always say, “It’s the Innkeepers who make the Inn,” and it has really has been a pleasure. We have traveled to the UK and Ireland many times, and actually scrapped a trip to England this fall, due to other commitments. So even if we couldn’t get to England this September, we were very happy to rent a lovely apt. in Coastal Maine, filled with English country style, and have the best of both worlds! B. & L. – MA
The house was just wonderful … we loved every inch of it. Separate bathrooms were a blessing! It’s so obvious how much thought and care went into the planning and execution. It was lovely. J.D. – RI
… we loved your choice of books … everything was charming and cosy. J.S. – NY
The Zadoc Brewster house provided us with everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable holiday. Although we were unfamiliar with the area when we arrived, we found all the information needed to explore the beauty of Rockland, ME. The wonderful English furniture and uniquely decorated interior added greatly to the pleasure of our stay. We are looking forward to our next vacation at the Zadoc Brewster house! E.S. – VT
We had a wonderful time at the Zadoc Brewster House! Went to some old favorites and found one or two new ones. We ate at Primo which was a great experience. We loved the BIG bookstore – I practically had to drag everyone out to go home. Went there after dinner one night and had dessert but never made it back for lunch which the counter person said was really good. We also found an organic vegetable farm stand off Route 1 about 10 miles south of Rockland and the produce was wonderful. We had fabulous lobsters and tuna from Jess's fish store. All in all we ate our way across Rockland! One drizzly day we drove to Union and Hope since we had never been there and the Hope ice cream stand was having a sale – $1 for a scoop that would have cost $10 in New York – no kidding gourmet ice cream is the new thing in New York. L.R. – NYC
